Salsa Fiesta!

Duke NUS celebrates Dinner & Dance 2011 with Salsa! Located at Sentosa Cove, the salsa-themed party was celebrated at the panoramic One Degree 15. Red Kite was the proud party organiser for the team of doctors, nurses, scholars and researchers who dedicate their lives in medicine. On the contrary to what people usually have an impression on, they are far from being dry and boring! In fact, these medicine folks are one of the most fun-loving and enthusiastic characters we hit the dance floor with.

Everything was strictly Salsa, they even had a door game! Our game masters spent several lighthearted moments facilitating ‘Smash The Pinatas!’. It actually turned out to be pretty dangerous when the smashing begun.

Three hot Salsa models joined guests as they posed for photographs.

Against the Salsa backdrop, the dining table sat hundreds of teddy bears waiting to be owned by smiling guests. The little blue and pink bears are door gifts, courtesy of One Degree 15.

While guests headed for their sumptuous dinner waiting by the buffet tables, guitarist Mario Lopez graces the stage with his collection of instrumental music to set the mood for the Salsa party ahead.

Clad in a full Salsa costume, Alex Tan was the delightful host of the Salsa-themed party. Making his grand entrance onstage with a few minutes of hard, fast but smooth Salsa dance moves, Alex proves to be a multi-talented host. (And Alex also sings by the way!) After giving his anticipating crowd a great welcome speech to officially kickstart the party, he invited who and what everyone was looking forward in this themed dinner & dance – Salsa dancers!

Led by Gary Foo from En Motion, he and his Salsa dancers were undoubtedly the main highlight of the event as their audience screamed and danced along with unwavering enthusiasm. After showing off their breathtaking Salsa techniques, which included several dangerous maneuvers that involved lifting their female counterparts only to drop them half way in the air on purpose, Gary proceeded onstage to facilitate a Salsa competition for Duke NUS!

The crowd went crazy when three Salsa couples were selected on the dancefloor for a battle against the best onstage. Now you understand why we were flabbergasted by these teams of medicine folks! Such enthusiastic dancers who bore no reservations with their moves!

Alex reappears onstage with Gary after he concluded the competition with the winning couple performing their finale dance. The crowd claims the dancefloor again to celebrate their newly crowned Salsa king and queen, while Alex joins in the fun.

En Motion returns again, this time with sexier Salsa outfits to set a dark, romantic mood in a dance that intrigued their crowd with much emotions and seduction too.

One of the most memorable moments for Duke NUS are the table games conducted by our host cum brilliant game master Alex. Besides bringing all guests together to interact with each other, the games managed to crack the Duke NUS folks into bouts of uncontrollable laughter as everyone played a part in DOLLING UP their table representative to be the winning table for the night!

After the games ended, the Salsa party have only just begun! Suddenly, the dinner & dance transformed in a one of the most happening clubbing sessions ever. If only they play Salsa at Butter Factory, these folks would have been mistaken for a resident crowd from there.
